What miracles did St Francis of Assisi perform?
God, the Lord of the Universe, is the One who really works the miracles that come to us through the saints, so one of the first miracles of St. Francis of Assisi, among the many attributed to him, was his conversion to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, described, among others, in the Gospel according to St. Luke, from which the Christian light spreads, illuminating the hearts of those who hear the call of Jesus Christ, our Saviour.

Saint Francis of Assisi, probably born in 1182, was one of those people who listened to the voice of God and dedicated their lives to the doctrine of Catholicism. Therefore, one of the miracles of St Francis of Assisi was to obey God, who spoke to him in the Church of the Porziuncola in 1209, and to abandon, from a young age, his previous life of luxury and material satisfaction in order to serve his fellow men. (See: What is the biblical doctrine of living according to the will of God).
The various miracles of St Francis of Assisi
The miracles of Saint Francis of Assisi began, thank God, while he was still alive; it is known that in the town of Toscanella he cured the crippled son of a gentleman who had given him hospitality; in the town of Nardi, Italy, by making the sign of the Holy Cross, he cured a woman of her blindness and a man of his paralysis; and on another of his journeys he blessed a monk, a friar, and he was cured of the epilepsy that afflicted him.

In Castello, Italy, another miracle of St Francis of Assisi took place when he manifested in him the gifts of exorcism, freeing a woman from the demons that tormented her, just as he cast out a demon that had possessed a leper, whose wounds he healed and washed, and this leper, through the intercession of St Francis before Jesus Christ, was completely cured of leprosy, a disease that was incurable at that time. (See: Prayers that defeat the demons that haunt your life).

Another of the miracles of St Francis of Assisi was the conversion to Christianity (like the miracle of the conversion of St Paul, who heard the voice of God and became his follower) of three thieves who had stolen valuable objects from his monastery. St Francis did not accuse them but made them understand the piety of Jesus Christ, the thieves joined his order and dedicated their lives to the virtue of serving others.
In Egypt, he convinced a sultan by winning a challenge to preach the Word of God in those anti-Christian lands.
The miracles of St Francis of Assisi on animals
The miracles of St Francis of Assisi, performed by the power of God while he was on earth, were such that in 1228, two years after his death, he received the grace to be canonised by the decree of Pope Gregory IX. During his last days, the signs of the wounds of Jesus Christ were miraculously revealed to him, reflecting in his sick body the wounds suffered by our Saviour on Calvary.

St Francis of Assisi is considered the patron saint of animals because he saw animals as beings equally deserving of divine grace and he treated them as if they were human beings, so much so that it is said that one of the miracles of St Francis of Assisi was to make birds listen to his holy sermons, and it is said that birds and other animals would not leave his side until he stopped talking to them.

Among the miracles of Saint Francis with regard to animals, there is the well-known story of how he tamed a ferocious wolf that was ravaging the Italian region of Gubbio; this wild animal was causing serious damage, not only devouring farm animals, but had already killed several people, so it was very feared, but Saint Francis, by making the sign of the Holy Cross, managed to tame it and stop its attacks.

Because of his great love for animals, which is another example of the miracles of St Francis of Assisi, in his iconography he appears accompanied by a wolf or a bird, together with the image of his stigmata, which reflect his love for Jesus Christ and for animals. After his death on 3 October, the miracles of St. Francis of Assisi increased and his name resounds in every city in the world (see: The works of St. Francis of Assisi: all you need to know).
