Love is the emotion that moves the world
People express love for their parents, children, siblings and friends.
They also love their pets, and many even love material things.
But all people long for the love of a special person.
Being in love is the best thing that can happen to a person, so they defend it with everything they have.
Some people who are looking for a partner pray to St Francis of Assisi for love.
Let’s find out who Francis of Assisi is, the saint of love par excellence.
St Francis of Assisi
Giovanni di Pietro Bernardone was born in Assisi on 5 July 1182.
His mother, Donna Pica Bourlemont, and his father, Pedro de Bernardone, belonged to one of the wealthiest families of the time.
He had a worldly youth and was imprisoned after the battle between Assisi and Perugia.
During his imprisonment he suffered a serious illness that changed his life.
Prison encouraged him to renounce his father’s possessions and lead a simple life.
St Francis devoted himself to the care of lepers and outcasts.
He began to restore the ruins left by the war.
He had a vision in which he was told to repair the church. To see who founded the Roman Catholic Church.
He used his father’s money to do this, who was furious and disinherited him.
St Francis of Assisi fought against various cults and devoted himself to preaching the Gospel.
In 1028, according to historians, he had a new vision that told him to go out into the world to preach.
And so he began to take the Gospel with him wherever he went.
This led to a renewal of Christian spirituality that had been dormant in the 13th century.
Francis gathered a group of 12 disciples to form his Franciscan order.
In 1212 he received a nun named Clare with whom he founded the Order of Poor Women.
It is said that St Francis of Assisi travelled to the Holy Land with the intention of evangelising the Muslims.
Although he did not succeed, he continued his work of evangelisation for eight years.
When he returned to his homeland, he was greeted by hostile monks and decided to resign.
Without the responsibilities of the order, he dedicated himself to working with the most needy.
Inherited tradition
It is believed that the tradition of setting up a nativity scene at Christmas dates back to 1223.
According to the historian, in the Italian village of Grecio, the saint gathered the villagers for midnight mass.
Around a crib improvised by St Francis, hymns were sung in praise of the Child.
It is said that this became the custom in Italy.
And so both the prayer to St Francis of Assisi for love and the crib became popular all over the world.
In 1224 St Francis was praying after forty days of fasting.
It is said that he felt terrible pain and the stigmata of the crucifixion were visible in him.
Two years of pain passed before he died on 3 October 1226.
Pope Gregory IX canonised him in 1228, and in 1980 John Paul II proclaimed him the patron saint of ecologists.
His remains now lie in the Basilica of St Francis of Assisi.
Crowds of Catholic parishioners visit every year to pray to and venerate St Francis of Assisi.

prayer to saint francis of assisi for love
O wonderful St Francis
Most Holy Protector of Assisi
You who for love of riches despised
The vain things that the world offered you
You who forsook the comforts of your home
And even your own parents
The cross embraced you in your mortification
To reach the arms of the Most Holy Mother
Mother St Clare, religious and sister
Where, fervently imitating her admirable virtues
Became like you, model of all perfection
Saint Francis, beloved Father
Grant us, Lord, through your intercession
That our prayers of love may be answered
We who invoke you punctually
To Saint Francis of Assisi for love
Inspired only by your infinite goodness
May it reach the ears of the Father.
St Francis, you who despised the flatteries
and the pleasures of the world
We wish to imitate your virtues with the cross of mortification
So that we may not stray from the path
That leads us to the Lord
Saint Francis, beloved saint
Through you I may obtain the love of (name the person).
