Whenever adults give a pet to a child, they should give the parents the prayer to St Francis of Assisi for Lost Animals.

When a child loses a pet, it is like losing a family member.

For them, the pet is more than an animal, it is their friend.

They spend a lot of time with their pets, so they get used to them very easily.

Therefore, when they lose them, they suffer greatly from the absence of their playmate.

That is why mothers pray to St Francis of Assisi for lost pets.

There are some children who make up for the lost love by adopting another animal.

But there are also cases where the pain is so great that they refuse to have another pet.

It has been scientifically proven that animals are excellent companions for children.

In fact, therapies with different animals are used to treat various conditions.

Certainly, animals are a blessing given to us by God.

We use them not only for food, but also for work and companionship.

Many people have witnessed the love that children develop for their pets.

In fact, some argue that if a child has never had a pet, his or her childhood is incomplete.

In fact, they form bonds as strong as family ties.

And when they are partially or permanently lost, it is a hard blow to bear.

That’s why parents try so hard to make their pets appear to spare their children the pain.

Others pray to St Francis of Assisi for their lost pets in the hope that they will turn up.

Let us find out who this saintly protector of all animals is.

Giovanni di Pietro Bernardone

Better known as St Francis of Assisi.

He was born in Italy, in the city of Assisi, on 5 July 1182.

His mother was Donna Pica Bourlemont and his father was Don Pedro de Bernardone.

They belonged to one of the wealthiest families of the time.

Giovanni, or Francisco, had a worldly youth, full of excesses and waste.

And one day, because of bad choices, he was imprisoned.

During his time in prison, he contracted a serious illness that almost killed him.

This helped him to reflect on his past behaviour and he decided to change his life.

The first thing he did on his release from prison was to renounce his father’s inheritance and lead a modest life.

He began to restore the ruins left by the war.

The story goes that Francis had a vision in which God told him to repair his church.

He used some of his father’s capital to do this, so his father was furious and disinherited him.

In 1028, Francis of Assisi had a new vision in which God asked him to preach the Gospel.

So the saint set out to travel and carry the word of God wherever he went.

He gathered a dozen disciples with whom he founded his Franciscan Order.

And in 1212, together with St Clare, he founded the Order of Poor Women.

St Francis of Assisi visited the Holy Land with the firm intention of evangelising the Muslims.

Although he stayed among them for eight years, he did not succeed.

But this did not discourage him and he continued his work of evangelisation.

The holy ecologist

According to those who know, St Francis of Assisi had a deep respect for everything in nature.

He truly loved animals, because for him they were God’s creation.

That is why he never killed any animal, not even insects.

It is said that he regarded nature as his sister.

For the sincere love he showed for nature, Pope John Paul II declared him Patron of Ecology in 1979.

For his demonstration of love and humility, Francis of Assisi is considered one of the noblest saints in history.

Prayer for animals

Blessed St Francis of Assisi

Patron of all the animals of the world

We thank you for the love you show us

by caring for our nature

Blessed saint, you who see animals as your brothers and sisters

I humbly come before you to ask for your favour

For my child’s pet is lost

And his little heart finds no comfort

So I come to you, blessed Saint Francis

That with your boundless love you may protect him wherever he is

And make him find his way back to his home.

Blessed Saint Francis

Patron Saint of Ecology

I ask you to save every little animal that has no family

So that it has a place to sleep

And a kind heart like yours to give it a home.

Help us, blessed St Francis

To be more like you

To show love to all animals

As we do to our fellow creatures

I thank you, beloved St Francis

For I know you hear our prayers

And because you have never left unanswered

To a faithful devotee who has prayed to you

I promise to take loving care of nature

And the animals that come into my presence

And pass this love on to my own

So that together we may preserve

Your beloved nature

Thank you, St Francis of Assisi

For all your nobility
