The Virgin St Helena is one of the most revered and worshipped women in the Catholic religion, as she was the one who brought back objects bathed in the essence of Jesus. In the following article you will find part of her story and prayers to the Virgin St Helena.
History of St Helena
Known among Catholic saints for having obtained and brought the objects on which Jesus Christ suffered, such as the cross and the nails. Recognised by Catholics who proclaim her sainthood, she took it upon herself, body and soul, to search for the relics of Jesus and the remains of the three Magi.
In religion, she is the patron saint of marriage, archaeology and conversion.
She was a Roman empress who was later declared a saint by the Church. She is the patron saint of many cities where she is the patron saint, as in the case of the place where the cross was discovered, as in Chile where there is a vineyard named after her, as in Argentina where there is a city named after her, and as in these two countries where St Helena is venerated for her patronage.
The origins of St Helena
She was born around 250 A.D. in Trapani, Rome, a place that would become Helenopolis thanks to her son Constantine I, who proclaimed her with his mother’s name.
Although in the years in which she grew up and created her life it was not allowed for servants to marry their superiors, this was not the case with the Virgin St Helena, her parents were royal servants and yet she was able to marry Constantius Chlorus.
St Helena, or Helena of Constantinople, lives a life of wealth and luxury, but she is a woman with a strong curiosity to discover the true story of Jesus.
That is why she took it upon herself to search for the artefacts that made the life and story of Jesus Christ our Lord.
Around 292 she finally separated from Constantius Chlorus, the man with whom she had her son Constantine I, who a few years later became Emperor of the Roman Empire. She was then a woman of renown among the people who made up the imperial court.
She lived through the most bloodthirsty and violent years of Rome and became a very good and benevolent woman who helped people, which is why the Church soon proclaimed her a saint. She began a long pilgrimage to holy places in search of the cross and objects belonging to Jesus. She became a Christian and her conviction helped her to find everything she set out to find.
Once the cross was found, she extended her search to Jerusalem, Rome and Constantinople itself. She died in Rome in 330.
