The life of Saint Raphael the Archangel
Saint Raphael the Archangel is known as the patron saint of doctors and the sick. He is one of the 7 archangels who protect God’s interests in heaven. He is one of the guardians of the choir of seraphim.
The archangel Raphael was given a great mission: to heal Tobiah’s wife Sarah, who was seriously ill. She was also suffering from Satan, whose noble husband was also a victim. Raphael was a fierce defender of the Catholic Church, fighting constantly against the seductions of Lucifer and restoring faith to many atheists.
Saint Raphael helped Tobias to marry Sara and was one of his companions through many misfortunes and vicissitudes. It was at this time that Tobias became blind, and in order to regain his sight he had to catch a fish, eat its gall and take care of its liver. Sara was under Satan’s power. Tobiah could not find a solution to his blindness and the victory was on the side of evil.
Amodeus, as the devil was called, killed all of Sarah’s husbands. He would not allow her to marry any of them. That is why God allowed the relationship between Tobias and Sarah to be saved. Saint Raphael was a physician, he exercised his skills with great decency. He repeatedly said that to be a good doctor, one must be endowed with great simplicity.
God blessed Saint Raphael with one of the most special gifts in the world: healing. This saint is able to cure acute illnesses. He is also able to deal with ailments of the soul and spirit. In iconography he is represented as a robust man with the figure of a fish in his hands.
