Have you ever noticed how Jehovah’s Witnesses dress when they preach? Today we will learn a little more about this religion that many of us know from their constant visits.
I don’t think there is anyone, at least in Venezuela, who hasn’t been woken up by the Jehovah’s Witnesses knocking at the door.
I sincerely doubt that there is anyone who does not know how Jehovah’s Witnesses dress!
From an early age we learn to recognise them so that we can run away from them.
If you are walking along a pavement and you see a couple where the woman is wearing a dress or a skirt and the man is wearing trousers, a shirt and a tie and is also carrying a briefcase, you are sure, more than sure, that they are Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Many people change pavements to avoid being caught by them.
Others simply ignore them.
And many don’t even open the door to their house (even if they break it down!).
But what is it about these people that makes most people run away from them?
Let’s find out a little about this religion that has caused so much controversy because of its beliefs.
Characteristics of Jehovah’s Witnesses
Jehovah’s Witnesses is the name of a religious organisation that originated in the United States at the end of the 19th century.
Charles T. Russell was the founder of the movement. He was an apostate Presbyterian who did not accept the teachings he had been given about Christ, suffering and hell.
It is said that Russell had no biblical knowledge and that he formed his religion on the basis of popular beliefs.
He published his own magazine, Zion’s Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.
La Torre del Vigia y Heraldo de la Presencia de Cristo in Spanish, now called La Atalaya.
which he used to preach his doctrine.
Today they base their beliefs on the Bible, but a Bible they have published themselves.
This is because their teachings have been refuted by verses from the traditional Bible. Find out more by reading how many verses are in the modern Catholic Bible.
This version by Nathan H. Knorr indiscriminately changed many verses to support Russell’s teaching.
The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures, The Watchtower and Awake (written by them) are the books that support this religion.
The Witnesses took their name from the 43rd chapter of the Book of Isaiah, “You are my witnesses…” ….
How Jehovah’s Witnesses dress
Although many of us know how Jehovah’s Witnesses dress, we still don’t know much about their doctrine.
For example, did you know that their teachings are contrary to the Bible?
They deny that Jesus Christ is God.
In their Watchtower they claim that he is a created angel.
But the Bible states repeatedly that Jesus is the Son of God. If you want to know who Jehovah is for Catholics who attend church, click on this link.
They deny the resurrection of Jesus.
They believe, and would have their followers believe, that Jesus’ body became a gas and that it was God who removed that body.
Russell taught in his book Studies in the Scriptures that the man Jesus is dead forever.
When the Bible proves that Jesus rose from the dead, it is when He tells His disciples to look at His hands and feet.
Not only that, he asks Thomas to put his finger in his wound to see if it is him!
How Jehovah’s Witnesses dress is the least important thing, what really matters is what they teach.
They do not believe that the Holy Spirit is God.
While the Bible clearly states in Ephesians 4:30 that the Holy Spirit is God, they claim that the Holy Spirit is not God.
They claim that He is nothing more than an impersonal force, perhaps like electricity.
There is no free salvation.
Ephesians 2:8 says that we are saved by grace (free) through faith.
For Jehovah’s Witnesses, the only way to be saved is to join their organisation and dress like a Jehovah’s Witness.
They believe that only 144,000 people will be saved.
They don’t believe in the Trinity.
For them it was Satan who invented this doctrine.
This is obvious because they do not believe in the Holy Spirit or in Jesus, the Son of God.
Situations unfavourable to this religion
The way Jehovah’s Witnesses dress is actually the least controversial.
The main point of the controversy arises because of certain attitudes that characterise them.
For example, they do not celebrate birthdays because, according to them, God does not like it.
They do not celebrate Christmas, nor do they allow their children to receive gifts on that day.
They do not eat certain foods.
Women have no say
They can talk among themselves, but if there is a man among them, they must be silent.
Only male elders have a voice in their temples.
Most controversially, they do not allow blood transfusions, even if life is lost.
Final consideration
Knowing how this religion was created and what it is based on, I think the least important thing to consider is how Jehovah’s Witnesses dress or don’t dress.
To me, the fact that they rely on a Bible of their own creation detracts from the validity and truthfulness of their religion.
The Bible clearly states that not one letter should be added or subtracted from what is written in it. Read more about this in our article on how to learn to read and interpret the Bible correctly.
It does not surprise me at all that they do not believe in the Holy Spirit if they have put their faith in what was written by a man like themselves.
I am saddened by the fact that many people are deceived into believing in a salvation that will not come.
Not because I say so, but because the Bible they have rejected says so.
Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through him.
How can you have salvation if you do not believe that Jesus is His Son?
